How do I clean up my disk?

Do you think that when you delete files from your PC they have gone? You probably already know that having deleted a file you need to empty the recycle bin to really get rid of it. But do you know even then the data in the file is still stored on your hard disk and can be reconstituted very easily. How come? All data is stored on the magnetic surface of your hard drive and unless something magnetic happens it will be there forever. Normally after sometime it will be overwritten with different data but that could take a long time.

So what can I do?

a) To permanently erase the data you could try a powerful magnet but you would have to remove the drive and would destroy any useful data as well as the rubbish.

b) You could try formatting the drive using fdisk. Again anything useful is also destroyed
